Sean's Paternal Grandmother
 Sean's Paternal Grandmother
Bubby (Yiddish for "grandma") was an avid bingo player, joke teller, tchotchke collector and social dancer. She was endowed with an infectious cackling laugh and an equally impressive scowl. The Brooklyn flat she shared with Grandpa Max boasted the obligatory Magnus Chord Organ and sputtering window fan, and was sheathed in translucent yellowed plastic to protect against the fecal shrapnel of t heir irritable-boweled parakeet, Poopsie. Though by no means a skilled linguist, Bubby pioneered use of the high-degree-of-difficulty three-word contraction "tsa," as in "tsa shame" and "tsa terrible thing," during the Great Depression. A proud, charism atic woman, Bubby hailed from Stanislau, Austria, one of eight siblings, six of whom perished in the Holocaust. (1940s)
